In Case You Were Wondering....

  • When I was 9-years-old, my dad showed me how to set a dynamite charge (he owned a road construction company).
  • After I graduated from high school, I was offered a scholarship to Texas Tech as a twirler but turned it down to get married.
  • I took a job in 1981 at a ranch in New Mexico that was once a survivalist’s commune under surveillance by the FBI as a suspected hide out for the Symbionese Liberation Army, which were holding Patty Hearst captive. Turns out the survivalists were growing marijuana underground. The man whose job I assumed supposedly committed suicide, but I found out that he was actually murdered, by my boss!
  • When I was 10-years-old I pee'd my pants on 3rd base because no one could hit me in. Since I had on a dress, no one knew. I threw my socks in the trash in the school bathroom.

  • I've never liked to sleep with men - sex yes, sleep, no.
  • When I was 12-years old I spent three months in Europe with my sister, her husband, her four kids and my mom, all of us traveling in a station wagon. We camped out mostly, starting in England, then to the world fair in Brussels, then through Switzerland, Germany, France and Italy, and a month in Spain.
  • My mom spent most of my childhood, when she wasn't working, in her bedroom reading.
  • When I was about 7-years old I stole 50 cents from my mother and felt so guilty that I confessed.
  • My husband and I play gin and shoot pool nearly every night.
  • In 1980 I had a nice long conversation with Don Henley (Eagles) at a party at the Driskill Hotel.
  • I kept a horse at college and rodeo'd for a while.
  • I was Miss Ooola of 1966 (beauty contest based on Alley Oop comic strip, originated by V. T. Hamlin, who was inspired by all of the fossils around my hometown when he worked there in the oil fields).
  • When I was in high school, I was deep into spelunking (pun intended.)
  • I backpacked around Mexico for a couple of months when I was in my 30’s.
  • During the early 80’s, I worked for Chevron on a precious minerals exploration project in Van Horn, TX, looking for copper and silver. I also taught aerobics at the local high school.
